Silicea (silica)is a homeopathic remedy that is also known as simply 'silica'.
Silicea (silica)is used to treat small-scale infections that appear to becoming worse instead of healing spontaneously, e.g. to help to resolve lingering abcesses or boils, or to expel infections or foreign objects such as splinters.
It is also used in cases of other symptoms that are slow to heal, and for people (personalities) lacking vitality, stamina, and the will to recover quickly.

The homeopathic remedy silicea is derived from the chemical compound silicon dioxide, whose chemical formula is SiO2 and which is commonly referred to as simply 'silica'. This mineral is abundant in nature where is is found in the form of quartz and sand, as well as being present in many living organisms. There are very many different crystalline forms ('polymorphs') of silica, some of which result in beautiful natural structures. There is also a huge range of different uses for the various polymorphs of silica. Knowledge of the structures of silica and their chemistry and applications may be included in courses in material science.
In the early days of homeopathy the remedy silicea was prepared from naturally sourced forms of the mineral, such as quartz crystals or sand. Modern methods of production of homeopathic remedies tend to use silica that has been produced synthetically (i.e. by chemical processes performed in a laboratory, as opposed to by extraction from rocks).
Homeopathic preparations are usually supplied in either liquid or pill form. Regardless of the physical form in which the remedy is taken, its preparation will have involved a series of dilutions during which the original substance was repeatedly diluted and succussed (shaken) in a solvent such as water and/or alcohol.
